Standing seam and exposed-fastener systems

Metal Roofing Panel Types and Applications

Panel geometry, fastening method, roof slope and substrate drive the system choice. Color comes after the assembly can handle the building and water path correctly.

Before choosing a product

Which panel characteristics matter most?

The roof slope, run length, deck or open framing, wind design, expansion and contraction, penetrations, edge details and intended appearance all affect the panel recommendation.

01

Roof slope and seam

Snap-lock and mechanically seamed panels have different tested slope and water-management capabilities.

02

Concealed or exposed fasteners

The attachment method changes appearance, movement, inspection needs and long-term maintenance.

03

Substrate and span

A solid deck and open framing are different conditions. The panel and attachment schedule must match the substrate.

04

Finish and thermal movement

Coating, color, panel length and Arizona heat all affect expansion, contraction and detailing.

Move from products to the right roof scope.

Use the product families to narrow the conversation. The inspection and written estimate should connect the selected surface to the complete roof assembly.

Metal roofing questions

What to know before making the final selection.

Online product information is useful for narrowing the direction. Current samples, specifications and the roof-specific scope control the final choice.

Is every standing-seam panel appropriate for a low-slope roof?

No. Seam geometry, mechanical seaming, clips, substrate, underlayment and tested assembly requirements determine whether a panel can be used at a particular slope.

What is the difference between concealed- and exposed-fastener metal roofing?

Concealed-fastener systems hide the primary attachments beneath the seams or clips. Exposed-fastener panels secure through the face and require visible fasteners with weather-sealing washers.

Can America Roofing match a metal roof color from a screen?

A screen is useful for narrowing the direction, but not for final approval. Finish, gloss, lighting and device settings change color appearance, so a current physical chip should be confirmed.

Is Ultra-Flush a roofing panel?

CMG positions Ultra-Flush for soffit, fascia, liner and wall applications rather than as the field roofing panel. It should not be substituted for a tested roof panel.
